It seems preposterous that there are still climate change deniers left. But all of those should be silenced upon reading the latest report from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

As the fifth largest continent in the world, Antartica is also the most Southern, overlying the South Pole. Scarcely touched by humans, the frozen land boasts breathtaking scenery, broken by only a handful of scientific bases and a "permanent" population of scientists numbering only a few thousand. Visitors to Antarctica generally must brave rough sea crossings aboard ice-strengthened vessels, but those who do are rewarded with amazing scenery and tremendous and unique wildlife. Destinations ____________ The primary destinations for those visiting Antarctica will either be a research base for those working on the frozen continent or the Antarctic Peninsula or Ross Sea area for those visiting by ship) Other destinations are reachable only by those blessed with extreme motivation and most importantly funding. On Earth Day, Climate Denier Trump's Budget Cuts Threaten Alaska & Mainland USA

The 47th Earth Day on Saturday was marked by hundreds of rallies around the world to support the sciences and defend climate research that the White House is threatening to no longer fund. Alaska may be ground zero for these budget cuts. With temperatures soaring last winter to 50 degrees above normal, the area around the North Pole is melting and the Arctic Sea ice is shrinking at a rate never seen before. Utqiaġvik, Alaska, which was once called Barrow, is the farthest northern city in the U.S. It’s also the site of a lonely outpost where NOAA monitors the Arctic Sea ice. In some areas, ice that was once nine feet thick is now as thin as three feet. The warming Arctic is causing the jet stream to wobble across America and helping spawn massive weather events. As America’s weather becomes more destructive, early warning systems become more critical. But scientists could lose vital tools like climate-monitoring satellites under the Trump administration’s proposed budget cuts. In Alaska, warmer temperatures are melting the permafrost and villages are literally disappearing. Scientists say that today’s Alaska serves as a warning for what climate change will mean in the future for the rest of America.

Captain America Runs North Pole Marathon

Doug White, aka Captain America, took on the 2016 North Pole Marathon on April 9. The marathon is on the ever-drifting Russian Barneo ice base at the geographic North Pole in the Arctic Sea. Doug was among 47 other competitors from 19 countries at the race, running in temperatures of around -41 degrees Celsius, according to the video’s description. Apparently there were snipers set up around the course to keep the runners safe from polar bears! Credit: YouTube/britclip
